Failing at life like a champ

Remember those two back-to-back races I signed up for for the second time this year (because I'm just so smart?)

Basically, they were the most gigantic wastes of my money ever. I haven't been sick in over two years, but this week and last my immune system decided to kick my ass. Last week, well, let me demonstrate with an annoyingly happy image.

And then this past Friday, the first day my stomach was back to normal, I started with a sore throat and by the time I left work, swallowing or talking felt like setting fire to my throat/neck/head and i had a fever of 100. At the late hour of 6:30, I took some magical medicine and went to bed for the night.

Magical oral anesthesia.

I spent the majority of my weekend doing more of that. Over and over. Sunday I went grocery shopping and then needed a nap. I don't feel any better today but I know if I go to the doctor they're just going to tell me it's a virus and to stop being a whiny little jerk. I should've saved the stuff I blew out of my nose this morning to bring to them. Doctors love that kind of thing, right?

My grand plan was to start Insanity this week, following my last two races, but now even that will be postponed until next week. It took all the energy I had this morning to take a shower. Epic life failing at its best. I had a coworker yesterday tell me to shoot saline up my nose ten times a day and I'll be better in three days. You know, or I could just drown myself. That would make everything better!

  1. Ugh that sucks! I love racing, but that whole no refunds/transfers can really bite you in the ass. Hope you're feeling better soon.

    1. Yes, the no refunds thing sucks monkey balls. I can see why they do it but I still think they should've made an exception just for me.

  2. You really should neti pot! It's terrifying, but it'd probably help. Hope you feel better soon!

Also, why are your races Do Not Resuscitate?

  3. It's too bad you couldn't sell your bibs! It's probably a good thing though because that many back to back race efforts is a recipe for injury anyway. You'll recover from a cold much faster than a running injury!

    1. At least I got a friend to pick up my shirt from the expensive race, so it wasn't a complete waste of money. Or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

  4. Hope you feel better soon. Hate wasting money on races, so frustrating! Usually when I go to the doc all they have to say is "I don't know". Waste of money.

  5. That sucks - it's looking like we are about to DNS on a super expensive race, so I feel you right now. I just try to focus on the positive things in life, like the fact that my mom made me pie. I'm so helpful.

  6. Ugh, that sucks. I'd never DNS'd until this year (when I DNS'd two races too!) and it's very frustrating. I hope you start to feel better soon! Maybe check with the doc...they might be able to give you something, if it's strep or similar.

  7. I'm so with you. I have a race on Sunday and woke up sick. I lost a ton of money last year DNSing a bunch of races due to being pregnant. I hope you are at least feeling better!
