Elmo's got moves!

Yesterday I got back on the horse, folks. And by horse, I mean the pavement in my neighborhood...in my running shoes. I decided to switch it up and, instead of running for a certain mileage, I ran for an hour. It turns out, running for time instead of distance makes me feel much less stressed during the run.

When I got home, after running almost six miles in 56 minutes, it occurred to me that not too long ago, six miles was a long run. This is my longest weekday run so far. I'm planning on keeping it up.

Since it was also yet another dizzy run, I had to take a couple of breaks to lean over on the side of the road to keep from falling over. This normally annoys the crap out of me, but yesterday it was lucky.

I hope it's a sign.

I was almost ran over by an older lady in a white car who apparently didn't think my life was very important. I attribute the fact that I'm still alive to the clovers...or, you know, because I jumped out of the way.

I was a good girl afterward and foam rolled and I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but no pain in my left calf today! WEE!

best friend/worst enemy

Now for the home stuff. No actual updates until after tomorrow, but I've been decorating in my head. Since I bought the tumblers this weekend, I found some amazing place mats online. (No, I don't have a kitchen table yet. What's your point?)

My best friend's mom makes magic with a sewing machine and I asked her if she'd make me these magical place mats. I can't wait! (Never ever did I think I'd be excited about place mats :)

I'm also thinking of using stencils throughout the house (in small doses) to add some interest for cheap.

I love this one for a kitchen back splash.

Pebbles. Reminds me of the Flintstones :)

I saw a tutorial online on how to paint on curtains. So, buy cheap curtains and make them look expensive. Sounds like my kinda project! This pattern reminds me of the sun rising or of mountains. Great for curtains, right?

...except probably a purple color scheme...DUH.

Also, I'm totally making this to go in the hallway at the top of the stairs.

Oh, and it WILL be sweet!

And two must-haves:

Good stuff for the back door and hallway.

I am also in very dire need of new running clothes. I was grossing myself out during my run yesterday from the smell of my shirt. It's a stinky time to be saving money, folks!

On another random note, my friend introduced this video to me this weekend and it cracks me up every time. It will make your day brighter, I promise.

Do you run for time or distance, or do you switch it up? Which do you like better?

Any fun home decorating ideas to share?

  1. I've never seen a real four leaf clover. That's awesome and totally a sign. Awesome job on your run, even if it was dizzy!

  2. Is that night light humping the wall?

Also, that back splash is like an episode of What Not to Wear: Home Edition. I mean...I love it.

I love that you carried home your 4 leaf clovers and then like ironed them to a piece of paper. You're special. :)

    1. Ok, let's back up a sec. The nightlight is trying to pull the plug out of the wall, not humping it. Why must you take the fun out of everything!?

The back splash will look awesome in better colors and without that tile part. You'll see.

I AM special. I taped them to the paper so they won't turn brown. So very special.

    2. Wait, how does tape stop them from turning brown? I've never heard of that before.

    3. If you tape them down, air can't get to them...

  3. Great job on your run! I can't believe you found that many 4 leaf clovers! What type of foam roller is that? I am thinking about getting one and that looks nice. Love the 1st backsplash. I usually run for distance but if I only have a certain amount of time to run, I go for time.

    1. The roller foam roller is from TP Therapy.

  4. Way to go on your run! I seriously can't believe you run through vertigo. I had an inner ear imbalance once - so vertigo - and basically spent two days trying not to puke. You are a superhero!

    1. What I get isn't considered vertigo. It makes me feel like I'm off-balance, not that the world around me is spinning. It has yet to be diagnosed. Pain in my rear, really.

  5. I like some of your ideas. My mom creates magic with a sewing machine & by hand too. Although she can be so slow sometimes, I'd be turning 100 before she finished if I asked her to make them. Makes me nuts! How did you not damage them on the way home? I love the Elmo video too. I posted it on my blog too earlier this year! :)

    1. I carried the clovers by the stems while I ran home. It was tedious and I was worried I'd lose one, but it worked out.

  6. PLEASE come do my apartment when you are done. My friend is super artistic like you (she's our art teacher, actually) and has birds and trees and stuff stenciled all over her house and it looks incredible. I mean, look how cute you made the clovers. I would have been like "Eric, look at this!" then chucked it. Maybe snapped a picture for the blog on a good day. The placemats are adorable.

    1. If you buy the stencils and paint, I'm there! :)

  7. I love that you ran carrying clovers - how early in the run did you find them? That's some dedication for luck.

  8. Nice job on your dizzy run! I usually run for distance. Though once upon a time when I used Hal Higdon's training plans, tempo runs were based on time not mileage.
