Fast and furious

I had a busy weekend of doing home-related things. Friday I had an orientation with the Community Home Trust (company I'm trying to get a house through) and Saturday was a 6-hour New Homebuyer class. I learned a crap-load of things...a ginormous crap-load! I'm no longer scared of this whole process.

Two more exciting things: I put my name on a wait list for a townhouse AND I have an appointment this week with the bank to find out what amount of money I'll be able to borrow.

I drove by the townhouse and took some pictures after the class and then yesterday Amanda and I broke the law and walked through them. (They're being built and are due to be done in May).

I'm so glad the stairs were sturdy.

View from the master bedroom. I sorta hope they leave the porta potty.

The floorplans. Supposedly there are 2.5 baths. Anyone see the second
full bathroom? I don't.

The area where these houses are located is called Carrboro, which is a fun, interesting place. I'd even call it "eclectic".

case-in-point

I'm still trying to not get my hopes up, but it's easier said than done. I want this. BADLY.

I'm not going to lie. My running/working out has taken a serious hit this week. I've had a lot on my mind. However, this week, it's on! The beach is calling!

  1. I only see 2 toilets and 1 shower in that floor plan. Trying to decipher the double sink vanity between the MBR and the bath? A 6 hour homebuying class sounds long. Hope it works out for you -- very exciting for you and Pippi!!

    1. So they really meant that one of the bathrooms was a "doggie bathroom". Good call!

  5. Excited for you! Go for a run, it will help relieve the stress and keep your mind off of things. Good luck and have fun at the beach:)

    1. I don't actually beach plans yet, but maybe a neighborhood pool :)

  6. If this equates breaking the law....I'm in big trouble as this is one of my favorite pastimes. Walking through partially completed homes and trying to figure out what goes where is something I could spend ENTIRE DAYS doing. :)

Looks cool! So the two bedrooms share a shower/tub but the master has double vanities. That's a cool alternative to having a second bath if space is a premium and you want some privacy. Great first home Emily!!

    1. It really IS fun! If it looks like this might work out, I plan on going back every Sunday and taking pictures of progress. Only time will tell!

  7. you can pee in each of the sinks if you're flexible, so that counts for something.

Also, I wish I had a digital camera back when my house was built, but while you have the chance, take pictures of EVERYTHING in the house before the drywall goes up. Including every wall, and location of every electrical outlet.

When you move in, and want to drill stuff, it's nice to know where the wires are so you don't electrocute yourself. It also helps to know where the studs are if you're hanging heavy stuff, and which walls are load bearing, etc.

Just some tips from your friendly neighborhood blog troll.

    1. Thanks for the advice. Very helpful.

I'll let my guests know they can pop a squat over a sink if they need to. Good problem-solving skills.

    2. It's better than telling people there's 2.5 bathrooms in the house and letting them figure it out themselves.

  9. I hear you on the beach. We're going on vacation in two months and my bikini is waiting...waiting for me to develop some ab muscles I think. ;)

Congrats on the home buying move. That's so exciting! I wish I had advice, but alas, the husband and I are enjoying our Peter Pan time - you know, no home, no kids, no pets. Almost no plants too...only one bamboo plant is still alive. ;)

Perhaps the porta potty is included? Would that be another bath?

  10. I like the porch idea better than the sink idea...but either way...that floor plan might have some issues. :)
