Frosty is a diva

Here's something you may already know: Dogs are disgusting. They're also loving and funny and I enjoy them, but seriously, dogs are DISGUSTING.
Am not!

It's no secret they do stuff like eat gross things and lick themselves in public. I found out something new about my disgusting little four-legged friend yesterday.

Remember Frosty the Finger Puppet?

That picture was taken around lunchtime on Saturday. Some time between then and about 3pm, Frosty disappeared. I looked EVERYWHERE for him. I moved furniture, I cleaned out the dog crate, I checked etsy packages that I had ready to send out...and nothing. He had disappeared off the face of the planet! I even made sure to notice there was no white fluff in Pippi's poop.

And then, about five minutes into my workout yesterday, that dog throwing up sound started and I acted quickly and flipped her around so she wouldn't let loose onto the carpet. Guess who emerged ... entirely intact!
Nice rack, Frosty.

I bet you didn't know a dog could swallow a finger-sized stuffed toy whole, contain it for 48 hours, and return it in the same condition as when it was swallowed. The only time I left the house on Saturday was to walk to the mailbox and get the mail. That's the only time it could have happened. It's like Pippi had been planning his demise for days.

Since his miraculous discovery, Frosty has been washed in hot water, bleach, and detergent. Twice. I let him soak overnight in a bath of vinegar and water (that was boiling when he was submerged), and then washed him several times with antibacterial soap.

This is like a day at the spa compared to where I've been.

He pretty much looks good as new except that his scarf is now red and white instead of pink and white, he smells like a cross between a swimming pool and an easter egg, and I probably won't handle him without then washing my hands, but FROSTY LIVES!

I'm a survivor. I'm goin' make it. I will survive. Keep on survivin'.

Failing at life like a champ

Remember those two back-to-back races I signed up for for the second time this year (because I'm just so smart?)

Basically, they were the most gigantic wastes of my money ever. I haven't been sick in over two years, but this week and last my immune system decided to kick my ass. Last week, well, let me demonstrate with an annoyingly happy image.

And then this past Friday, the first day my stomach was back to normal, I started with a sore throat and by the time I left work, swallowing or talking felt like setting fire to my throat/neck/head and i had a fever of 100. At the late hour of 6:30, I took some magical medicine and went to bed for the night.

Magical oral anesthesia.

I spent the majority of my weekend doing more of that. Over and over. Sunday I went grocery shopping and then needed a nap. I don't feel any better today but I know if I go to the doctor they're just going to tell me it's a virus and to stop being a whiny little jerk. I should've saved the stuff I blew out of my nose this morning to bring to them. Doctors love that kind of thing, right?

My grand plan was to start Insanity this week, following my last two races, but now even that will be postponed until next week. It took all the energy I had this morning to take a shower. Epic life failing at its best. I had a coworker yesterday tell me to shoot saline up my nose ten times a day and I'll be better in three days. You know, or I could just drown myself. That would make everything better!

I need a life raise

I hate meetings. Rarely, I believe, are they really necessary. I spent two hours in a meeting yesterday morning that was only supposed to be 1.5 hours long and all I left with was the knowledge that all that junk on my to-do list was still there and none of it got done while I was sitting in this meeting thinking all about how I could be getting things done.

Yes, I realize a word is missing and yes, I was too lazy to fix it.

Later on in the day, I had another meeting about work/life balance. One of the ideas presented was about how, partially because of meetings during the day, people end up doing work at home after the workday is over (when they're not actually getting paid), which increases stress and decreases time with family (or pets...ahem).

GOSH Mom, you're so boring! Turn off the laptop and let's PLAY!

As of late, I've been seriously lacking in my workouts, and I hate it! When I was in Boston, I utilized the hotel gym and realized how much I miss my gym membership. I just can't make it work with my budget currently. I have a Groupon for a 3-month membership at the YMCA down the street, but I feel like it's gold and I don't want to give it up just yet because after the three months I'm going to be very very sad. I have to begin using it by October, so I figure it'll be a good thing for me to do after the Hartford Half to get me through the Winter.

It truly is sad how sore I was for two days after this one workout.
P.S. Meet my new running shoes. I have high hopes for these guys.

Truth be told, I really need to just shut down the Etsy-making, the freelance work, the work-work, the house cleaning, and get back to taking an hour for myself every day after work to get in my workout/de-stressing sessions. Hopefully someday when Pippi becomes a civilized dog that can walk on the leash without pulling me over, we'll spend that time going for runs together. (I can dream).

I think this is actually a good time for me to realize all of this since Hartford half marathon training starts Saturday morning! I've also got a few other fun tricks up my sleeve to mix up the workouts with abs and upper body exercises. I want my "girl guns" back.

Do you ever find yourself not taking enough time for yourself during the day?
I don't even have kids or a husband. I'm seriously in a bad state!
